Alberta PNP Points Calculator – Calculate Your AAIP Score in 2026
If you are planning to immigrate to Alberta through the provincial nominee program, your Expression of Interest score decides whether you get selected. Most online Alberta PNP calculators still use the old AINP scoring system — which Alberta replaced in 2022. This calculator is built on the current AAIP Worker EOI Points Grid updated August 2025, so the score you get here is the score that actually matters.
What Is the Alberta PNP Points Calculator?
This tool calculates your score under the AAIP Worker Stream Expression of Interest scoring system. Enter your age, education, language scores, work experience, job offer details, and Alberta connections — the calculator scores you across both Human Capital Factors and Economic Factors and gives you your total EOI score out of 100.
That score determines how your profile ranks in the AAIP pool. When Alberta runs a draw, it selects the highest-scoring EOIs in each stream. Knowing your number before you submit tells you whether you are competitive — or where to improve first.
This calculator uses the current official AAIP Worker EOI Points Grid updated August 2025. Most competing tools still show the old AINP scoring system — a completely different structure that Alberta replaced in 2022.
AINP vs AAIP — What Changed and Why It Matters for Your Score
In 2022, Alberta replaced the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) with the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). This was not a name change — it was a full restructuring of the program and its scoring system.
What most calculators still use
- Arranged employment adaptability factors
- Extended family connections (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins)
- Different education and language point structure
- Replaced entirely in 2022 — no longer valid
What this calculator uses
- AAIP Worker EOI Points Grid — updated August 2025
- Family connection limited to parents, children, siblings only (from Jan 29, 2025)
- Rural & sector stream bonuses fully integrated
- Regulated occupation certification worth 10 points
Most applicants don’t realize the scores they see on other calculators are based on a system that no longer exists. Using outdated points to decide whether to apply is a costly mistake.
What Is the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP)?
AAIP is Alberta’s provincial immigration program. It allows the province to select and nominate skilled workers, international graduates, and entrepreneurs for Canadian permanent residency. Once nominated, you apply to IRCC for your PR visa. Alberta is one of Canada’s fastest-growing provinces — and AAIP is one of the most active provincial nominee programs in the country.
The program runs several streams. The Worker Streams — including the Alberta Opportunity Stream, Express Entry Stream, Rural Renewal Stream, and sector-specific streams — all use the EOI points scoring system this calculator measures. Graduate and entrepreneur streams use separate criteria and are not covered by this tool.
🚀 Already Have an Express Entry Profile?
An AAIP nomination adds 600 CRS points to your federal profile and can dramatically shorten your path to permanent residency. Check your current CRS score to see exactly what that boost would mean for your ranking.

What Is the Alberta Opportunity Stream?
The Alberta Opportunity Stream is one of the most accessible paths to provincial nomination for people already living and working in Alberta. It is designed specifically for foreign nationals who are in Alberta on a valid work permit and want to transition to permanent residency without leaving.
To be eligible, you must be working in Alberta in a job that matches your NOC code on a valid work permit. You do not need an active Express Entry profile — this stream operates entirely outside the federal Express Entry system, meaning your CRS score has no bearing on your eligibility here.
⚡ Key Facts — Alberta Opportunity Stream
- No Express Entry profile required — operates outside the federal system
- Must be currently living and working in Alberta on a valid work permit
- Job must match your NOC code on your permit
- Uses the same AAIP Worker EOI Points Grid — your score above applies directly
- If you are already in Alberta and working in your field, this stream should be your first consideration
How to Improve Your Alberta PNP Score — Practical Tips
Most applicants submit their EOI with the score they have. The smarter move is to identify where points are being left behind and fix that before you submit.
Choose a Job Outside Calgary and Edmonton
Job offers in Calgary or Edmonton score zero for location. Any other Alberta community scores 5 points. A Rural Renewal Stream designated community scores 5 location points plus an additional 6-point rural sector bonus — a potential swing of up to 11 points from location alone, without changing anything else about your profile.
Study or Complete Your Degree in Alberta
A credential completed in Alberta scores the full 10 points for education location. A credential from another Canadian province scores 6. An international credential scores zero. If you have flexibility on where to study further, choosing an Alberta institution maximizes this category completely.
Get Your Language Score Above CLB 6
CLB 4 gives you 5 points. CLB 6 or higher gives you 10 — the maximum. That 5-point gap from a single CLB level is meaningful in a competitive EOI pool. Also note: CLB 4 is the minimum required just to submit a Worker EOI. If your current score is below that, you cannot enter the pool at all.
Get Your Alberta Occupational Certification Before You Apply
If your occupation is regulated in Alberta — trades, health care, engineering, law, and others — a valid Alberta Qualification Certificate or AIT-recognized trade certificate adds 10 points under Economic Factors. This is one of the most commonly missed bonuses in the entire scoring system. Many applicants in regulated occupations submit without Alberta certification and leave 10 points on the table.
Build Your Alberta Work Experience Before Submitting
Six months or more of Alberta work experience adds 10 points. Six months or more in another Canadian province adds 6. If you are already in Canada but not yet in Alberta, consider whether relocating before submitting your EOI is feasible. That 4-point difference between provincial and Alberta-specific experience can matter in a tight draw.
📊 Also Check Your Express Entry CRS Score
If you qualify for Express Entry, an AAIP nomination adds 600 CRS points and fast-tracks your path to permanent residency significantly. Check your full CRS score and see exactly what those extra points would do for your federal profile ranking.

How do I calculate my Alberta PNP points?
Enter your age, education level and location, language test scores, work experience, Alberta job offer details, and family connection into the Alberta PNP points calculator above. It scores you under both Human Capital Factors and Economic Factors and gives you your total AAIP Worker EOI score out of 100.
What is the difference between AINP and AAIP?
AINP (Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program) was replaced by AAIP (Alberta Advantage Immigration Program) in 2022. The scoring system changed completely. Most online calculators still use the old AINP scoring — which is no longer accurate. This calculator uses the current AAIP Worker EOI Points Grid updated August 2025.
How many points do I need for Alberta PNP?
There is no fixed minimum score for the Worker EOI streams. Alberta draws from the highest-scoring EOIs in each draw. A competitive score depends on the stream and the current pool. Check the latest AAIP draw results on alberta.ca to see recent cutoffs by stream.
What is the Alberta Opportunity Stream?
The Alberta Opportunity Stream is for workers already in Alberta on a valid work permit. It uses the same AAIP Worker EOI scoring system this calculator measures. You do not need an Express Entry profile for this stream.
Do Calgary and Edmonton job offers score location points?
No. Both the Calgary and Edmonton Census Metropolitan Areas score zero for job offer location. Any other Alberta community outside these areas scores 5 points. Rural Renewal Stream designated communities score 5 location points plus an additional 6-point rural sector bonus.
Can I get points for both English and French?
Yes. AAIP scores both your English and French proficiency and awards the higher of the two for general language points. If you have CLB/NCLC 4 or higher in both languages, you also receive 3 additional bilingual bonus points on top of that.
Does an AAIP nomination help with Express Entry?
Yes. If you receive an AAIP nomination through an Express Entry-linked stream, IRCC adds 600 CRS points to your federal profile. That score virtually guarantees an Invitation to Apply for permanent residency.
What family members count for Alberta PNP family connection points?
As of January 29, 2025, only parents, children, and siblings who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents aged 18 or older and living in Alberta qualify. Extended family members — grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins — no longer qualify for new EOI submissions made after that date.
